PLANNING YOUR ALVORD DESERT ELOPEMENT
Getting to the Alvord Desert for your elopement:
By plane: Fly into Reno/Tahoe International Airport and then it's a 4 hour and 20 minute drive to the desert
Fly into Portland Oregon and drive 8 hours to the desert (sometimes cheaper but more driving)
Why the Alvord Desert?
The Alvord Desert is surrounded by the Steen Mountains and canyon and is up against Utah's Salt Flats. The desert offers unbeatable 360 views of mountains on the playa and vast BLM land to hike around!

Staying in this Southern Oregon Desert:
Fields, Oregon is the closet town and includes the Fields Station with access to a motel and house to rent during your stay! The Fields Station is your nearest store and breakfast joint all in one with everything you'll need.
Camping in the desert:
You will have access to miles and miles of BLM land which means the land is owned by the government so you can camp anywhere where it's marked! Remember to leave no trace while camping and hiking!
Just past the Alvord Desert you'll find the Alvord Hot Springs where camping is 75 a night and you get full access to the hot springs. If you want to camp elsewhere you will have to pay $20/person to access the hot springs.
Best camping in the Alvord Desert: Frog Hot Springs!
*Hikes - Frog Hot Springs trail

Finding a natural hot spring!
Barnes Warm Springs - Located in the town of Frenchglen (340 miles from Portland) in the Steens Mountain wilderness. It's one of the few places where you can get gas for miles. Barnes Warms Springs is free to access which makes it the perfect location to soak in a natural hot springs!
The perfect itinerary:
Get ready in your tent
First look at Mann Lake
Head out on the mud flats for ceremony
Hike out into the Steen Mountains
Soak in a hot spring
Make a fire and look at the stars
Tips for planning your Alvord Desert Wedding:
Figure out where you're planning on camping first!
Stock up on supplies. If you're coming from Nevada there is a Walmart that's super handy! Fields, OR has a few supplies but can only get you so far.
Have a gas container handy as well as a spare tire. You will be about 20 minutes from the nearest town at the Alvord Desert.
It does get hot during the Summer - if you want to avoid sweltering on the playa I would recommended holding your elopement during Spring, Winter or Fall!
Pack layers!!!!! I can't stress this enough. The weather in the desert can change within a split second, one minute it can be warm and sunny and the next, cold and windy. In Spring you will see snow in the mountains as late as May!
